We’ve lived so long under the spell of hierarchy—from god-kings to feudal lords to party bosses—that only recently have we awakened to see not only that “regular” citizens have the capacity for self-governance, but that without their engagement our huge global crises cannot be addressed. The changes needed for human society simply to survive, let alone thrive, are so profound that the only way we will move toward them is if we ourselves, regular citizens, feel meaningful ownership of solutions through direct engagement. Our problems are too big, interrelated, and pervasive to yield to directives from on high.

Remorseful Jurors Plea to Judge: No Prison Time For OWS Activist

It seems to me that the hidden hand of class rule is now coming out from under the blanket of indoctrination which has always portrayed our society as a "democracy", ruled by impartial law, in a system of justice informed by the civil liberties enunciated in the US Constitution. The judicial case as reported in two articles (this and the previous one) on this website provides a perfect illustration of this new reality.

This development is probably good for many Americans, mostly white and middle class, who naively believed everything taught to them in schools, by media talking heads, and other authority figures in their lives. Such people have been living in a "democratic" fantasy-land full of sugar plum fairies dancing to the tune of civil liberties, an abundance of superfluous consumer goods, carefully managed elections, and other childish delights.

Of course, the development is shocking, but also a wake-up call that, hopefully, heralds a new consciousness about the world we live in--painful, yes--but, a consciousness that could lead to all kinds of constructive actions.
