We’ve lived so long under the spell of hierarchy—from god-kings to feudal lords to party bosses—that only recently have we awakened to see not only that “regular” citizens have the capacity for self-governance, but that without their engagement our huge global crises cannot be addressed. The changes needed for human society simply to survive, let alone thrive, are so profound that the only way we will move toward them is if we ourselves, regular citizens, feel meaningful ownership of solutions through direct engagement. Our problems are too big, interrelated, and pervasive to yield to directives from on high.

In the market for a private island? Take a look at some of the most stunning and remote properties out there

I'm sure some of my readers have hundreds of millions stashed away in some off-shore bank that they don't know what to do with. Well, there is one solution that can also give you privacy, insulate you from the maddening crowds, and give you complete security from the hordes of crazy activists who want to take your toys away: buy your own developed island. And, come to think of it, check out the Greek government which may be having a fire sale on their islands.

But what if you can't find one in a location that you want? Well, there is a solution for that too. Check out this post entitled "World's first portable islands will let super-rich create eco-friendly getaways anywhere on Earth".
